My point wasn’t about Vcore, it was about I/O. Like I said, the LPC1769 is one of those 90nm chips that allegedly “makes no economic or strategic sense”. (It’s probably actually bigger, maybe 130nm or 180nm, as the successor LPC1800 chips specifically advertise 90nm)

They all use the same 45nm and 90nm and even older microcontrollers, just like the automakers. And they are having big problems because they can’t get supply either. Have you tried to buy a thermostat recently?

Huh, where did you get 0.68V? That chip has a Vcore of 1.8V I believe, and is one of those 90nm chips the article is decrying as obsolete.

I’m not in the automotive industry so this is somewhat speculation, but another reason not to miniaturize is simple robustness.

mikeselectricstuff is one of my absolute favorite Youtube channels. If you can get past the insane information density, give everything of his a watch. You won’t regret it.

Part of the reason too is safety. When the car is off, or after an accident, the main high voltage battery is completely disconnected from the rest of the car (probably by those big white relays) to reduce the danger of electric shock. The car needs the 12V battery in order to boot the computers and energize the relays

How are the features which require the vehicle to communicate over the network supposed to still work when the network is taken down?

The tape deck wheels aren’t driven unless in fast forward or rewind. In play, the capstan is what actually moves the tape. The deck then just places a little bit of resistance on the spindles to keep the tape taut.

I mean if you want I can bitch about how the transmission exploded yet again because when the dealer replaced the first one that exploded (just out of warranty, naturally) they didn’t fix the underlying cause. But I still think it has good climate control and am genuinely curious why other people don’t like theirs.

Is there a particular reason you hate it? A lot of people seem to and it surprises me every time. Not a single person has replied in support of ACC. I’m not sure if there are lots of bad systems out there, or if many people have more precise comfort requirements.

I’ve come across this type of opinion a lot on the internet and real life and I really wonder how much is the person and how much is the system. My car is a Saab 9-3. Maybe competent automatic climate control is just relatively rare? I have passengers pretty rarely but I can’t remember any of them wanting the

I mean, yeah? For cars with automatic climate control at least. The only time I touch the fan speed setting on my car is to mash the “down” button until the system turns fully off if it’s a nice day and I have all the windows open. Otherwise that thing is in 100% full auto. I can’t ever remember desiring a different

My car simply won’t turn off the A/C compressor when the vents are set on defrost. Even if the button is turned off, it still runs and the light just lies.

Of course a solar panel is a bad solution by any reasonable metric, but I’m pretty convinced that it would give you a measurable and potentially useful increase in range. As opposed to being guaranteed to decrease it like you asserted.

The Freeman is so non-powerful that I think a solar panel would be able to make a meaningful difference. The official dimensions are 2.5x1.5x1.8 meters. Not sure which axis is which, but that should provide ample space for a 1m^2 solar panel. Let’s assume, very naïvely, that the 150W solar panel can put 100W into the

This is how my car does it, except it’s whenever the engine is running. I had to replace the HID bulbs at around 100k miles (which were fairly expensive and painful), but that’s been the only consequence of this strategy.

I’m going to buck the trend and say that this paginated format is nicer for 95% image articles. Kinja’s image preloader is excessively stupid so an article with a bunch of pictures is a disaster of constant reflows, fade ins, blank images, scroll jumping around, and so on. None of that happens here so I can actually

Porsche Pasha. I need it.

I had to pay a $180 ticket once for going 74 in a 70 at 2am somewhere in West Virginia. This is an astounding bargain.

“‘It’s the wild colour scheme that freaks me out,’ said Zaphod, whose love affair with the ship had lasted almost three minutes into the flight. ‘Every time you try and operate these weird black controls that are labeled in black on a black background, a little black light lights up in black to let you know
