You would be surprised the things that can be floating around in a cooling system. I have a little collection of things I found in warranty returned thermostats. Casting sand, casting plugs, and machining chips all make it in if you don’t wash the coolant passageways out properly

The issue being that a patent infringement claim on the pump’s drive mechanism has been filed by the estate of Rube Goldgberg?

Yes, but a conventional, mechanical water pump driven by the alternator belt never had this type of issues. Not always electric is better.

This should happen for the entire VW group. I have 2012 CC that has this issue, and there’s a law firm that started a class action lawsuit against VW group regarding the coolant/water pump.

So the Germans are now leaving grinding Schmoo in their coolant passages to nacker the pump, are we sure Audi’s aren’t made in PRC? If your VAG already had a coolant drip is it covered under warranty?
