What if we treated white men like this just for, like, an hour a year? So they know what it’s like.

I worked in restaurants all throughout my 20's. Sexual harassment is a part of the job, so much so that, as both CA Pinkham and the woman in this story say, you just grow accustomed to it being a part of the job, ESPECIALLY from the kitchen staff. I have this strange feeling even typing this, that just acknowledging

I commented elsewhere that I had to wait until I was in a good state of mind to read it.

This is a real concern for me and it’s kind of why I’m a bit rabid when a actress or other public female figures appears to have what (to me) look like obvious signs of eating disorders...or at the very least an unhealthy relationship with food. It’s like an open secret but the masses are encouraged to aspire to that

The Sunday NY Times yesterday had a good co-interview featuring both Matthew Weiner and Kiernan Shipka. they discuss some of that evolution in their conversation.

There might be a ton of questions here, but I find they can all be wrapped together into one simple sentence.

I'm really, really sorry that you know that.

In the US, I think murder has no expiry.

Has anybody tried putting a mic on him and letting him go to the bathroom?

I took a survey, and there are seven women that Bill Cosby has not tried to rape. Don't question my methods, it was very scientific.

Nah, Mars may eventually be habitable. If there's one lesson to be learned from America, it's don't send your unwanted extremists somewhere you might want to live one day.

That's interesting. And I'll ask, because I'm presently too lazy to Google: does the NRA pay to defend homeowners against criminal charges or civil complaints when guns in their homes are used to harm or kill someone?

Also doctors have a pretty good idea of the consequences of a projectile hitting a human body. Like I'm a vet not a mechanic, but I can tell you it's bad to hit a dog with a car even if I can't take apart an engine.

I don't think that anyone is arguing that doctors can't give medical advice unless they know about a gun in the house. It's that asking about guns in the house is relevant to patient health and safety.

Yep. Except when I was that age, I didn't see it as creepy (well, depending on who was doing the creeping) - I had a thing for older guys/men and authority figures and it all seemed kind of romantic and sexy.

"...while doctors may "know medicine," they're not the best people to ask about guns or gun laws: "[A]s a group they don't have any specialized knowledge of firearms or firearm policy."

States that can just secede already: Texas, Florida and Oklahoma.

I don't understand why parents/teachers/staff don't think to call ahead at any restaurant and let them know they are coming, in advance. I remember when my kids were little we were on an overnight trip with a class of about 50 kids and 15 parent/teachers . The week before the trip we knew that we would be stopping by

separate checks, lord. I don't think people realize how obnoxious that is. Just pay someone cash to cover your fucking meals with their credit card or don't bitch about how long it takes to cash out.
