I remember that, what a fucking mess!
I was banned for saying that Jezebel conversations about serious topics always seemed to veer off track to other topics...like “favorite brands of mascara”.
WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE GETTING BANNED my god it’s like they’ve gone on a banning spree for the past 8 months or so
Holy shit are you for real? Do you happen to know when that was so I can read over that dumpster fire? That’s crazy.
Co-sign! All the races I am are co-signing this, my white side too.
I guess they figure ignoring the commenters completely is better than the old method, where Tracie banned people who offended her by rightly pointing out how awful she was. But the Root has shown there is a better way for the writers and the commenters to interact. It doesn’t have to be that way, so I can only assume…
I’m with holding until they correct the monstrosity that is Jezeroot into its proper form, which is of course Roozebel.
Jez doesn’t seem to appreciate their commenters at all. There’s almost no interaction, ever, and certainly no respect or concern.
Seriously. If Jez writers care about their community of commenters, they sure have a funny way of showing it. Ongoing harassment allowed to continue unchecked, near-permanent trolls, people stuck in the greys for years, people greyed or banned for something as innocuous (and necessary; accuracy matters!) as pointing…
There are some new voices on Jez that I like. There is a writer named Ashley Reese who has a fresh take. I’m trying to be positive because the Root is half of the partnership. But I’m also really in my feelings about being banned.
We have faith in you (you! and the Root) and because of that I know a lot of us are looking forward to this partnership.
Jezebel writers can barely hide their disdain for their readers
I would have definitely responded or at least starred.
Rich Juzwiak (or perhaps some other editor, benefit of the doubt and what not) banned me from Gawker (RIP) after a back and forth exchange between the two of us about an article where he praised Iggy Azalea. I suggested he stop writing about black people/things/culture if he’s willing to give props to someone as…
That really is all there is to it.
And the indignation from the writers whenever their obvious nonsense was called out was legendary. Remember when an anonymous writer did an insanely vapid travel piece and when called out by the readers one of the Jezebel’s writers (I think Jia though I could be wrong) took to the comments to defend the anonymous…
I put my faith in the Root, dassit.
Danielle,
I would agree but unsweet tea is also for the old people in my family who are now diabetic cuz they spent they whole lives drinking sweet tea. Lol.
