In my household’s experience owning 7 new or CPO luxury cars over the past decade, most modern luxury cars are actually pretty reliable if you get one that doesn’t have a known fatal flaw. They’re not cheap to fix when they do go wrong, and service costs are a bit higher, but it’s usually worth it in my opinion.
I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that new car prices are forever reaching higher and higher points while inflation (and income levels) can’t keep up.......

I think the 4.2L V8 (shared w Audi) was way better then the V6 as far as reliability.
The camshaft lobes could get wiped out, making an engine-out almost necessary. The V10 used the same driveshaft as the VR6 model and would beat it mercilessly (08+ were appropriately sized). The stepper motor on the transfer case would fail. Turbo/cooling system work usually requires drivetrain-out, not just engine.
