I’d disagree that Hackett was sacked partially due to the Explorer launch. I worked at the Chicago plant for 4 years, and it is a mess. Everyone at Ford knows that it is the oldest, most dysfunctional plant in the company. And the CEO doesn’t have as much influence as you’d think over how a manufacturing launch goes.

But it specifically says under Information that the air deflector is intended to prevent a “humming noise” during city driving. It recommends retracting it at higher speeds. Sounds like it would not have resolved your 70+ mph experience.

To be fair to Tesla, they didn’t manufacture this part. To also be fair, their Supplier Quality team should be all over this issue. Looks like the control arm comes from CTR, the Tesla SQE’s should be requesting the part back from the dealer and asking CTR for all the data they have from their Quality system to show

I connected on LinkedIn with a recruiter from Karma back when I was still at Ford. Just looked her up and she switched over to Rivian a few years ago. Seems like a solid career choice.

My company furloughed the majority of its salaried employees in North America starting this week. I was lucky enough to only have a one-week furlough, so I should be back next Monday, most people got two weeks. There is always the risk it could be extended, but I think that’s unlikely.

Thought you were still talking about ovaries for a second. Rough, lower-optioned and ugly for crusty Boxster money... that is unsettling.

Are we sure the biggest lesson isn’t “build a couple of manufacturing plants in China and count your profits as your labor and EH&S costs approach zero”? Because that sounds a lot more plausible than “leave your employees alone” as a business strategy.

Joe Hinrichs story incoming:

A party sub AND a Bic Mac? What kind of fever dream picnic is Torch going to take this on?

I’ve had a heck of a lot of fun in a first-gen Neon. 132 hp and a 5 speed in a car that weighs 2,500 pounds? Sure the interior was 90's Chrysler but it is far from being a shit car.

Totally understand, and thank you for your service. I would never advocate for forcing people to commute one way or the other, I just wish more cities had options for people who would prefer not to drive.

Lol, what is short-sighted? I didn’t suggest anything. I just said that you can be a car enthusiast while also wishing that you didn’t have to sit in rush hour traffic twice a day because there are no other good options. I’d gladly take an hour napping or reading a book on a train over an hour going 10 mph feathering

If fewer people need a car, then life will be better for those of us who want a car.

I did not expect to find a Brave Fencer Musashi reference in my Jalopnik this morning but I’m glad I did! Loved that game.

Excellent suggestion, and great looking car! It would definitely be in the running if I found one in decent shape nearby, probably won’t start looking until the spring (snowing today in Chicago already). I’m a fairly tall fella so something with a bit of legroom would be great, otherwise I would probably already have

My brother and I each had one of these when we were in high school. He got a hand-me-down Plymouth with a 5-speed, and I got stuck with my Aunt’s Dodge with the 3-speed slushbox. Both from 1995, both were subject to absurd levels of hoonery. The engine on mine gave up and died in about 2007, to be towed to a junkyard

This may be the most relevant-to-me article I’ve come across in my 10+ years of reading Jalopnik. My wife and I are buying a house for the first time in two weeks, with a two car garage and one exterior parking space. I finally have room for a toy, and approval to spend around $10k. I will be watching these comments

Oof, hope everyone involved was ok. I didn’t remember the build going that high, but maybe in 2014 we did sell that many. They also skip a few serial numbers here and there, orders that get placed in the system but are cancelled and so never built.

Gonna guess the last 8 digits start with EG60. The 8th digit from the end denoted the model year, the next year would have started with FG, then the 2016s were GG if I remember right.

This article misrepresented the survey. The APEAL survey measures owner’s excitement and emotional attachment to new vehicles they have already purchased.
