When I worked at Ford at the Chicago plant, the Explorer used a letter and then five numbers for the last six digits which allowed them to serialize the 300-400k vehicles a year they sold worldwide. First vehicle started with A00001-A99999 and then rolled over to B00001-B99999 and so on.

Damn it you’re right. If you like “small trucks” you won’t be disappointed... I think Mike Levine loves dad jokes as much as he loves Ford and Twitter.

Nah, you can still find 0% on some models with dealer financing. A quick Google search finds plenty of up to date articles with a dozen or so offers right now. I just checked Ford’s website and they’re offering 0% for 72 months on F-150's.

You want a crossover with some actual flare, here’s 4!

It is, but it’s much more of an issue at that specific plant than in the rest of Ford or the rest of the industry. I worked at CAP as an engineer for four years. It has... a reputation.

Electric motors have *peak* torque at 0 rpm, not infinite torque.

Will it though? A C7 Corvette stops from 60-0 in 90 feet, which (assuming linear deceleration and based on some back of the napkin math) takes 2.05 seconds. A few more years of advances in tire technology and this seems feasible. I’m as wary of Elon’s ludicrous claims and promises as the next guy, but I don’t think

Yep. When I worked for Caterpillar we had supplier pricing available for Ford. Also known as X-Plan. Then I worked for Ford, and employees can give out X-Plan vouchers to anyone they know. I’m sure it’s the same for GM. Finding a friend of a friend who works for GM sounds a lot easier than getting a job at Taco Bell.

Mather also conflated a lack of advertisers with a surge in quality, which is a fundamental misread that assumes breaking beat writers free of their newspaper chains to do the exact same sort of coverage for The Athletic will lead to better writing

I never got used to the slider bar on the MKS for the volume and fan speed, and I used to work at the plant that built them! Customers complained about them constantly.

Neutral: Condo.

Hit the nail on the head here. I have a parking space in a surface lot at my condo building. 10 mile round trip commute that I only have to make 2-3 times a week with an occasional trip to the airport. Model 3 would fit my needs perfectly if I could go to a supercharging station once or twice a month to “fill up” on

If you look up McGrath Lexus in Chicago on Google Maps you can do a street view style walkthrough of the dealership and see the LFA. They even have a 360 degree photo from inside the car. Really cool stuff.

I was an engineer working on Squeaks and Rattles at one of the Big 3 for three years. Can confirm this is a thing at most/probably all auto manufacturers. Though at least there they’ve moved onto audio files on an iPhone.

Came to the replies for this, not disappointed.

Hate to be pedantic, but this car was $288,000 new. If the owner bought it recently he did not pay that amount. Inaccurate headline is inaccurate. Just because you lifted the headline from the title of CNBC’s video doesn’t make it ok.

I bet they were all worth the money. Most actually sound interesting, other than the Lebaron and the Altima maybe.

Happy to hear the RX-8 “please shift” beep in this video. Love that sound.

They’re fun to drive. What other benefit do you need?

No excuse needed. I will star this video every time I see it. You can post it on one of Kristen’s rich person yacht articles and it will deserve stars.
