Same here. They weren’t as bad as Fats (the dummy from Magic), though. There’s something about the realism of his face, the cragginess, the articulation, the creases and dimples, and the sense of facial musculature underneath, that makes him deeply unsettling in a way a regular Charlie McCarthy-type dummy isn’t.

I remember I would keep a blanket next to me on the couch when watching TV so I could hide my head under it in case that commercial came on. I live in dread of it for weeks. Months later the coast was clear, the movie had to have been long gone out of the theaters, and then, out of the blue, that commercial comes on

When I turn the TV on at 10PM, it’s usually on Nickelodeon from where my kids were watching it earlier, and Friends is usually on. I casually watched it back in the day and thought it was “pretty good”, but now I’m just like, “Good god, how did anybody ever watch this crap? How does anybody still watch this crap?

And I think, as powerful as he is, that he retains enough youthful naiveté and awe of his old master to think, “He survived all that? Holy shit, he is powerful!”
