That was basically the entire plot of one of TNGs best episodes, season 3s “The survivors ”. Troi HAD to be incapacitated because as Kevin himself notes to Picard, her abilities had allowed her to to discern who he really was.

The way she left LA Law to end up on Star Trek was pretty funny - her character fell down an elevator shaft (doors opened with no car). She literally stepped out into space and ended up on TNG :-)

It wasn’t a tv show, but I saw a production of the play Every Good Boy Deserves Favour that featured Patrick Stewart, Gates McFadden, Brent Spiner, Jonathon Frakes and Colm Meaney. My parents bought tickets and took my brother and me because ST:TNG was a show we would all watch together. It was so much fun to see them…

On the old TNG reviews Zack Handlen used to do, the running joke in the comments was that Troi was a fake.
