Just to throw some more trucks into the mix...
I know! It is on my "list" to own....one day...
Assuming that it is a multi cylinder engine there will still be exhaust spinning the turbo and forcing air through the intake. And the spinning of the turbo would ideally "pull" the exhaust out of the cylinder aiding in the flow even more.
No, aftermarket support doesn't mean the vehicle is better than another, but it just shows the popularity behind the truck on a consumer level. For instance, the F150 has very high sales numbers because a lot of companies will buy them as fleet trucks. Aftermarket support for things like suspension, power adders etc…
Same reason Toyota and Lexus exist. GMC was supposed to be the higher class version of chevy trucks/suvs, although that line has blurred more recently because all the trucks have very nice (too nice) of interiors now.
It was really a similar argument to the F150 debate. Although there is less competition in the compact truck market. Judging from aftermarket following, reviews, personal experience, reliability, I think that the Tacoma's nudge out the Frontier in the compact segment.
Ok, That is a personal opinion. My opinion having driven all the trucks is that the Allison is a far superior transmission, all the magazine articles, reviews, tests, say the Allison is by far the best too. Not the point of the post to start an argument about transmissions.
At the moment the 2014 Dodge 3500 can tow 30,000lbs.
Please elaborate on this. I tow pretty regularly behind my truck and with no exhaust brake or engine brake I can cruise down steep grades towing a 12K flatbed and not have to worry about applying the brakes. The transmission is very smart and can control the speed of the truck very well. The ford and dodge…
Man, I am sorry to hear your truck was stolen. I know that the 6.0's could be fixed with some aftermarket help and for every one that blew up i'm sure you could find one that ran just fine. But i agree that the newer trucks are just too choked up and at least the early years (2010-2012) they were getting awful…
You could buy an 01-04 Duramax with a ZF 6 speed trans.....just saying...
I couldn't have said it better. I agree at least for now there is nothing that can compete with the Tacoma in the compact segment, although i am excited by the colorado truck (especially the diesel version).
I think it is very difficult for anyone in this day and age to pick one truck manufacturer and stick with them. For instance, I drive a 06 Chevy 2500hd Duramax truck with the Allison transmision. I bought my truck because at the time the 6.0 Powerstrokes in the fords were garbage, and the transmissions and…
I think the biggest reason was for the ability to sustain higher RPM's but an F1 engine is also tuned and designed for much different characteristics than our consumer engines. So even though there will be no need for a civic to have an engine that revs to 15K rpm, I think that the lighter valvetrain assembly would…
All the best technologies that we see in the drivetrain components of our production cars probably started as an idea on a race car at one point in time. I think that as F1 engines needed to spin faster they realized the limits of a camshaft and had to develop a new technology. Seeing as I don't know of many road…
I believe it is a very good idea. It makes the two stroke cleaner burning from an emissions stand point and having two power strokes for every one power stroke in a 4 cycle engine is the biggest reason people like 2 stroke engines.
Regardless of if they "could" do this or not, every component in a diesel engine is far more robust than in a gas engine (due to higher internal pressures). So that means the gas engine would have to be built with much heavier components than it normally would be and that would increase rotational losses. Sure the…
So the way that I see this working would be to have the timing between the intake and exhaust set such that the two strokes would be this.
I think what is meant between the 2 stroke and 4 stroke modes is that on a 4 stroke obviously there are 4 strokes: Intake, Power, Compression, and Exhaust. By being able to control the timing of the valves and which valves to open they could theoretically control the intake and exhaust valves to run like a 2 stroke. …
For what its worth, my view on the whole mini truck (frontier, tacoma, colorado sized trucks) and half ton trucks getting diesel engines isn't for the purpose to increase towing capacity as more it is for increasing fuel economy. Similar to how diesel engines in car's don't increase performance as much as are there…
