That sounds like a terrifying situation and I would never want to be anywhere near that truck if I saw it. Not saying I haven't seen it or that they don't exist because clearly they do, just trying to defend those of us with trucks that do tow and haul stuff safely.

My apologies for misinterpreting my understanding of the word Standard. From what I read in articles was that this standard wasn't going to be implemented or enforced upon truck makers until 2013. I know that the standard doesn't add components to the trucks to make them achieve a certain tow rating but instead

From what it sounds like through my reading of articles is that the standard was created in 09 like you said in the article but SAE didn't enforce it or implement it until 2013. And as we know, trucks being tested and developed in 2013 aren't going to be 2013 model year trucks, they are at least 2015 trucks i'm

I would disagree with your statement "this is how most trucks are used". Regardless of what the weight rating for a vehicle is there will always be someone who does something stupid like these pictures show and for everyone who is involved I hope no one got hurt and these people aren't doing this on a daily basis.

I want to apologize for my comment. I did some research and found out that the SAE J2807 isn't a new standard and has been around since 2009. I think these articles will answer a lot of questions and issues most of us were having.

I don't see why this is such a big argument. So replace the two 150lb standard people with 200lb ones. Adding 100lbs of people up front between the frame rails and between the wheels won't change the tow capacity of the truck at all. Before we start a useless argument on how all pick up drivers are fat lets just

I like the idea of a standard but I'm not sure this standard is giving a full test of the towing capability of trucks. Accelerating the load is one thing, but stopping the load is arguably much more important. Is there more to this standard than just some acceleration tests? Deceleration tests? Are these ratings
