It’s interesting that in THIS case the candidate has to be ‘qualified’ but there are at least a dozen pro sports franchises whose current ownership’s only qualification was being born to the right people.

Baines: tied for 351st all time in WAR amongst position players, along with Juan Gonzalez and Magglio Ordonez, both of whom have a stronger claim on a spot in the HoF but what are you going to do.

I still think Lee Smith belongs in the HoF, but knowing LaRussa and Reinsdorf are on the selection committee makes me wonder even more about Baines. I liked Baines, and appreciate what he did in his career, but if a guy was going to squeak in only to have the reaction be so vehemently opposed that they slam the door…

Based on my only ever watching Miami when they play the Bears/Colts/Lions, I just assumed the Dolphins were undefeated at home, perpetually.

That play should settle that nagging feeling everyone gets that the Patriots are spying on other teams’ practices.

What was utterly dumb about that is the refs still would have had to have given the defense time to substitute.  

Maybe this is the Baseball Hall of Fame leaning towards actually representing the depth of their sport and therefore worth visiting, like the Hockey Hall of Fame.
