I just read the relevant rule, and apparently American League teams have the OPTION of starting the game with a DH. If you don’t start the game with a DH, you don’t get a DH for the rest of the game. Further, you can’t have someone slip in at DH if they first entered the game in any other capacity.

If you take Ohtani out off the mound, does he have to stop being the DH? The DH is allowed to bat and he never steps foot on the field?

I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for Ohtani to get a ND after pitching like that, knowing full well he has a better bat than 6, 7 or 8 of the players in the lineup.

No disrespect intended to Albert Pujols, but I wonder if the Angels would be better off letting Ohtani DH for himself and letting Pujols rest on Sundays, as God intended.
