Well, owning Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche and other (very) succesful brands sure helps alot.
Instead of seeing VAG as a car maker, try to see it as a small country. That's how much of a (financial) punch VAG carries. In that light, 4.6 billion spread out over a number of years is not so much of a burden. It's annoying, but not crippling...
