This seems like a wonderful way to browse for content and then put it on, but the more basic remote features (Vol, Prev, Play/Pause, etc.) would be better served by a device with tactile feedback (i.e. a remote) so that one could use them while still looking at their television.

It's not as if your devices will stop accepting IR blasts from the remotes that came with your system. It's also unclear if multiple iPhones can be used at once, and how they would prioritized.
