I just go Cmd+Option+B or Bookmarks>Other Bookmarks when I want the "archived" bookmarks, but I do not want that folder taking up valuable space in my Bookmarks Bar. I wouldn't mind it as a default folder, but it makes no sense that you can't remove it from the bar. You can add/remove other folders from the Bar.
