Thanks for this retrospective! So many memories of these for me. My dad learned computer programming in the early 90s by tearing apart any old PCs he could get his hands on and frankensteining them together with “new” components from events like these at the local community college, learning the different coding

ETA -I’m very surprised that SE won’t just bite the bullet and have a small team of illustrators spend a year creating high res versions of the FFVII/VIII/IX backgrounds that they can use in all of the remasters from here to the end of time. But then again, that would make too much business sense, along the lines of

Much of the original ‘master’ files from the original production of the game were lost. I think I read that a similar issue happened with FFVII, which is why the PS4 port of that game took a year to complete - they had to rebuild / recode quite a bit. FFVII and FFVIII had PC releases soon after the original PS1

From a quick google search, it looks like it’s always been $80 per pair, but maybe they’re on sale for $70 often enough that it feels like the normal price? Or maybe we’re mixing it up with the pro controller price?

I also wrote the same comment, I could’ve sworn they were $70 per pair.

That’s fantastic. The PS3 is one of the best libraries in gaming, hands down, and if my backwards compatible launch console hadn’t given up the ghost (and if Sony hadn’t removed that feature in later models), I’d still own one just to have access to three amazing generations of games.

I could also imagine the inverse though - depending on how much effort it would take to port and rework the second screen features, they may see it as a way to better recoup some of the development costs and give the game a second life.

Fair point, especially for the PS2. I always liked the Gamecube hardware a lot better than the Wii, but there are clear advantages.

Agreed, especially about World of Light. I just passed the halfway point and things are getting more interesting, especially since I pushed the difficulty up to hard (taking most matches from a breeze to a solid challenge).

I’d love to play TMS, but according to VGChartz the game only sold a whopping 170k copies in the US (and somehow only 80k copies in Japan), with only 330k total worldwide sales. I know Atlus releases some niche games, but it seems like this might be a niche too far (pop idol + SMT + Fire Emblem) even for them.

As another former Wii U owner (there were dozens of us!) I just can’t get excited about NSMBUD. Those games are solid platformers, but they just never grabbed me. I know it’s a big title, but man, it feels so disappointing that they didn’t use this opportunity to bring over 3d World instead. I’m sure they will

That’s a damn good year. I’ve been tempted to jump back into retro gaming like that as well, so I’m jealous! Have fun with the PSP, which is tragically underrated - especially if you’re into JRPGs, that system is absolutely swimming in them. (I just got a Dreamcast and Genesis myself, and while I love Crazy Taxi, I’m

I agree with some points in this article, but I think there are a couple of points to expand upon / add:

I get that. She’s needed to use an epipen due to allergy symptoms (hives, trouble breathing), but nothing that serious in the past few years.

That’s completely understandable. My wife has a pretty wide list of food intolerances (lactose, tomatoes, most fruit) that will mess her up pretty badly (a bit of orange / pineapple juice used in some chinese takeout once made her throw up immediately, a bit of unexpected butter in baked goods gives her an awful

For the record, I just ignore JK at this point - she’s gone so far off the rails on all these additions to canon (let alone written five goddamn movies about Newt fucking Scamander) that it’s easy enough to tell myself that none of it matters, and if it did matter, it would’ve been in the goddamn books.

I’m eagerly looking forward to the revolutionary iFlip phone in 2020, complete with “audiophile headphone connection” - such courage. And an extendable antenna for maximum signal strength.

...I mean, maybe? But world was literally destroyed, everybody died, and nobody (aside from the two main assholes) have any chance to fight for anything anymore.

...so your logic in the original comment was something like this?
