    hi

Amazon's always cheaper than other stores online. I have an extension that checks that for me. Sometimes the other prices are slightly lower, but not once I add in shipping and handling, which I don't pay on Amazon because Prime. I don't like going to physical stores if I can help it. I go to physical stores for

Didn't the book prices have something to do with Apple? I remember there was a whole big deal over that a while back.

the Gerber tool says it's airline safe

I actually did a clean install of 8 and then upgraded to 8.1, but maybe the difference is between upgrading to 8.1 and installing 8.1 clean, or the MSDN 8.1 might have a few different defaults (and I did not use the MSDN one) or even it could be information from a preview version.

But on those computers, if you're using them for more than 5 minutes, you just take a couple seconds to add the layout and then if it's a computer other technical users use, you can just leave both layouts added and switch it to qwerty, if it's a computer that non-technical users use, remove dvorak.

Well now I'm confused. When I updated to 8.1, the command prompt was the one in that menu. I had to go find the option to change it to PowerShell (because let's be real, it does everything the command prompt does and more).

That's true, it took me a moment to relearn shortcuts. It's not a big deal for me because I use the touchpad for a mouse. One thing worth noting is that Macs (which I don't own but have played with) actually come with a specific layout that's dvorak with qwerty shortcuts.

or just add the layout while you're using another computer... it's pretty simple.

Most people. It took me 2 weeks to get up to speed while learning the slow way during finals in college. You're typing right now. That time could be spent typing in an alternative layout, and I assume you aren't in mom's basement. Why insult people because you can't learn a new skill?

Why? Dvorak comes with Windows, Mac, and Linux. I use dvorak and I'm constantly remote connecting to PCs and using virtual PCs. Most of them just catch my layout, and the others take 2 seconds to change (especially on Windows XP, where it's automatically selected when you go to add a layout).

I've been on dvorak (with the occasional programmer's dvorak) for a couple years. It took me 2 weeks to get up to speed with my former QWERTY speed, but they say it's faster if you don't keep going back and forth, which I did because of finals. I now type significantly faster on it than I did on QWERTY. I do type a

Weird and frustrating, but I found a program (called StartIsGone) to remove the start button from the task bar (and not just its icon, which I could easily do on my own).

I've just been using Team Viewer because I'm already using it to fix my family's computers.

Someone please tell me how to disable the start button! I keep my start bar on top of the screen, and 8.1 made it so I have 2 start buttons (one on the top left [on the taskbar] and one on the bottom left that's invisible until clicked). Do not want.

I know boot to desktop (which I want) is optional. Is the start button optional? I've been hiding mine since early Windows 7 (via registry hacks) and really don't want it back. It'll actually make a difference for me, since my taskbar is at the top of the screen and my invisible start click spot is at the

I use the start screen, but not right away. Boot to desktop is good for me. I really like what they did with the start screen, though. I'd be mad if the menu was back.

Actually, wait. You two both say you're on it, and it looks like it exists from the link I was linked to, but when I actually log in and look at plans, the highest option I'm given for data is 12GB per month (compared to my grandfathered $25 unlimited data plan). How do you even get on that plan?

That's good to know! When I went in one of their stores and talked to them, they told me they didn't offer that (all the non-grandfathered data plans at that point had a cap that they start throttling at). One of them offered to upgrade my plan, looked at it, and took it back. He said that since they didn't have a

From clicking through, it looks like they shouldn't be raising our bills, which is good. In that case, it's probably worth it to stay with them even though we're losing some features.

Because they don't offer all of the things they used to offer (eg an unlimited data plan without a cap).
