I don’t even know what a caliper is, which probably at least partially explains why I’m having so much trouble with this tape measure concept.  :)

Thanks!  That was very helpful.  Although it just makes me wonder why they don’t account for the width of the clip in the measurement.  Like, why don’t they affix the clip to the underside of the tape and run the tape all the way to the very edge of the clip...

The “it’s loose so it gives two types of accurate measurement” doesn’t make any sense to me.  Wouldn’t it still be accurate if it was fixed in place?  And anyway, how is it accurate if you hang the metal tab on something and the actual tape pulls away?

It’s stupid that this is even questionable. You shouldn’t be allowed to intentionally give someone a concussion.  Kick him out of the league.
