The artwork reminds me of the book “The way things work”. I got the book for Christmas when I was 10 and I wore it out. When my daughter was born, I picked up a new copy, just in case.

Both styles are prevalent in Japan, not all Japanese are comfortable with the squat style, or vice versa.
