I was so happy when he showed up as the Mayor of Gotham in The Dark Knight.  So happy.

Only on the The Tick.

I may be in the minority here, but I didn’t mind Affleck’s Batman at all. He could pull of Bruce Wayne and Batman, which I feel like Christian Bale couldn’t do. And I think of all the Batmans we’ve seen in movies, I liked the look of Afflecks the best. Mostly because the suit was basically the Arkham City suit, i

I feel bad for him because he probably would be great in the role if the material was any good, and now he’s ditching right as things are starting to turn around for these movies. And beyond that because his life seemed to fall apart right around the time BvS came out, and I’m thinking everything around that movie

Three things:
a) /s means sarcasm
b) did you not see the parenthetical with an obvious joke?

Never got into the Pod F Tomcast or Spontanenation, but loved loved loved Dead Authors (frigging Jason Mantzoukas as Socrates!). I also thought his Speakeasy show on youtube was a delightful interview show.

I think it is far and away the thing in comedy that makes me happiest.

John Hodgman as Ayn Rand.

paul’s “dead authors” podcast is a wonderful, wonderful thing.  i pray he revives it some day.

It’s a recurring segment about terrible straight to DVD movies. They’ve been doing this for 10 years now. And 99% of the article has nothing to do with Lovecraft’s racism.

Am I too slow with this?

If you don’t think Lovecraft’s stories are openly, viciously racist, you should probably... read them

Isn’t that what the article said? Essentially, “Enjoy the stories all you want, just don’t make deceitful hagiographies about Lovecraft’s life.”

You either didn’t read this article, or you can’t read.

i actually thought that Alex’s take was one of the best ones i’ve seen on that subject, especially because lovecraft gets an inordinate amount of discussion in that sphere. you dont get the same ‘but did you know he was incredibly racist?!?!?!’ taking up half of every review of a new jungle book or john carter movie

Alex literally said: They’re long dead, so frankly, it doesn’t make much of a difference any more, except in a socio-historical way, if you were trying to trace the cultural lineage of cruelty or oppression or what have you. You don’t have to feel bad about liking good art made by those bad guys; they’re dead!

Yeah, and Thomas the Tank Engine is also about trains, which are a particular fetish for Ayn Rand. Don’t try to glom that hateful objectivist bullshit onto self-love and care, man, it’s not the same at all.

The ladies at the office refer to this show as The Fat Kid and His Ugly Lesbians. They are not woke.

There have always been diminishing returns sticking to Gene’s vision.  that’s why he was fired from Trek not once, not twice, but three times.  Didn’t Scotty have a saying about fooling him more than once?  Oh, yes, I believe that was a saying invented in Russia.

It would’ve also been a wildly cool decision to have her opposite the much younger Routh, both from a general inverting the standard Hollywood age gap standpoint (the Marvel movies have actually been subtly good about this!)
