If you hold down the alt key and type 0176 on the number pad on your keyboard, you will get the ° symbol. This will keep you from having to use an asterisk in when talking about degrees.
It could have been worse.
One of the best karting experiences I’ve had was my buddies and I on a drift oval. The place we went to spread talcum powder on the turns to enhance the slipperiness.
Camp is the BEST! My favorites were the pool, the ropes course, the stables, and best of all - sailing! As counselors, we could do any of the activities during our off period. I probably spent half of mine goofing around in a sunfish or monocat.
I was once a camp counselor and thought I’d like to be a director someday. Our camp was big enough that the director kept a few minibikes around. I had the good fortune of access to one of those bikes whenever I wanted. Best summer ever!
I was considered a late bloomer since I didn’t move to the country until I was 11. I made a new friend who’s dad introduced me to the world of rural responsibilities. I drove my first one-ton, manual transmission truck, and learned how to use it to back a 30-ft trailer, all in one afternoon not long after I turned…
My first truck was an ‘83 Mazda B2000. If you thought your truck was slow, try cutting the horsepower by 38%.
I have been around since the time of AM radios, so I assure you we have similar history. However, you seem to be a bit naive as to the current state of technology.
I’m not sure where you are going with this. It can be very difficult to see where you are going when flying FPV. It would be easy to mistakenly fly into traffic. It’s also easy to get blown off course by high-level winds.
It all depends on your platform!
Nobody flies near other aircraft on purpose, but close proximity flights do happen occasionally. A friend of mine was thermalling when a full-sized glider came into the same thermal. We were all working as spotters to keep the two aircraft apart. The glider pilot waggled his wings when he realized that the “bird” he…
I hear you. Modern aircraft, especially small quadcopters, are really hard to see. I currently fly a DJI Phantom. I can’t believe some bonehead decided that white was a good color for something that is supposed to be visible in the sky! Back in the day, our gliders had a 2-meter wingspan and we always used a dark…
I can’t say how high I’ve flown one since I’ve never had a plane-mounted altimeter. I have specc’d one out, but that was a rare occasion. I never liked flying that high since it was too easy to sneeze and lose sight of the aircraft.
It’s all about the signal range. One guy posted a video where he takes a Skyhunter (plane) out 20 miles with a max height over 7,000 feet.
It’s not necessary to see the aircraft if it is equipped with First Person View (FPV). If flying FPV, the on-board camera transmits everything from the aircraft’s point of view.
