I think Lucasarts actually had little if anything to do with Maniac Mansion’s music. IIRC, it was added by Jaleco for the NES port, and they had The Fatman of gaming music fame produce it.

Which isn’t to say it didn’t have a great soundtrack.

I think your opinion is completely valid. That Maniac Mansion track was great, and continues to be after all these years. The game’s premise and aesthetic is awesomely wacky...that intro track fits perfectly.

Well, I mean, Professor Layton games are $40, and most of those are created without having had to develop virtually any assets from the ground up. I think it’s a fair price.
