Cruise ship tourists suck ass. They don’t stay in hotels, they don’t eat in restaurants, and they buy a few meagre trinkets. In exchange they take up space, treat locals like garbage, and act like decidedly-entitled pricks. Cruise ship tourists contribute very little to local economies.

Goddamn, someone remembers NOLF. That’s a nice reminded to go back and give it another play sometime.

Bizarrely true. I may have already told this story before but over Easter I had arranged to meet an old friend in Brisbane as were both there (me from the UK, him from NZ) at the same time. We needn’t have bothered making any arrangements - I just bumped into him on Queen Street.

The first line of the anthem (“Australians all let us rejoice”) is mostly a write-off as its used by the assembled masses singing it to try to find a key they can all agree on.

Yo this is an awesome show!

While certainly many US sports teams have/had mascots of questionable sensitivity, in the the case of the Philadelphia Flyers (hockey), they didn’t have a mascot at all before Gritty. Apparently the design was inspired by the mascot for the Phillies, the Philadelphia baseball team, who is also vaguely Muppety, but not

Tall Poppy Syndrome?

Oh and The Bamboos!

Unfortunately, INXS was the best Aussie band that Australia could come up with.

I can’t believe in all these comments that no one has mentioned The Saints yet. That’s a helluva oversight.

The Church & AC/DC are other classics, and even more recent acts (Press Club, The Smith Street Band, Alex Lahey, Courtney Barnett, Angie McMahon, San Cisco, Julia Jacklin, Alison Wonderland, G Flip) end up on a lot of my playlists.

I will have to check out Tropical Fuck Storm.
