Neither. $40K can get you a used performance car (with a warranty), a new hot hatch, and a host of other toys. I’d get pretty much any of these before considering a new pickup, let alone an old one.

I also mentioned the 911 and the R8. These are extremely superior in terms of numbers, also can have manuals (esp if bought used), and can be daily driven. The 911 also seats 2+2 like the Lotus.
