Honestly I saw the movie once and don’t remember a thing about the score. But that’s true about all these scores that were nominated to be honest. I remembered Little Women’s more than the others probably because I saw it the most recently (I haven’t seen 1917 but Thomas Newman is one of my favorite composers so I was

I’m happy to support women’s advancement into fields that are insanely dominated by men. But thank you for reminding me that it’s not ~required~

I was not a fan of Joker so I wasn’t excited when it won that category but then I saw it was a woman and I was like FUCK! I have to be happy! And I was. Women composers!

There was no way they were going to give it to him the year after he won for Bohemian Rhapsody. I think this is obv a million times more worthy but...

Luckily I didn’t see Dazed and Confused until later when I was in college. I was too young when it came out and was more raised on Contact and his early romcoms. And I’m just from Texas and I feel like he’s a Texas treasure. But yes his character is so skeevy

I feel this!

That’s totally fair.

Thank you Caroline for writing about that beautiful scene in Pain & Glory, especially considering the fact that whoever wrote the original review of the movie in this site thought it was one of the least effective scenes and my mind was blown.

No I think they’re saying that it’s harder to empathize with people who spent their career pointedly not empathizing with others.

But what about his Two Weeks Notice cameo?

But this version has both endings really.

Yeah while I did find this version more charming than the Gabriel Byrne version, I did like that the 1994 version showed more of their developing friendship and mental connection. In this one she literally has a meltdown at his criticism and tells him to not talk to her anymore and then the very next time she sees him

I don’t know if you’ve seen it yet but Jo makes a comment in this version about Amy always escaping the hard parts of life. I laughed at the line as a youngest child myself.

I hate to break it to you but that score was by Thomas Newman (Rachel Portman did Emma two years later if that’s what you’re remembering.)

Hahahaha I get it I was mostly joking. I enjoyed the Lighthouse well enough but it’s definitely understandable to not.

Not a fan of Pulp Fiction I take it?

That was legit my first thought leaving the theater: “well at least it wasn’t a Colin Trevorrow directed Star Wars”

I know you said “fake” spoiler alert but...

Having seen it last night, RoS does make it PAINFULLY obvious that almost every choice is a retcon of TLJ. It’s INSANE how unsubtle it is. The part about the gang not breaking up might be the least subtle bit. But there were a few times where I FULLY rolled my eyes because of how much they’re almost obviously shitting

Exactly. I had least got some mild enjoyment out of the first Hobbit even though I never watched it again. The second was HOT GARBAGE so I never saw the third.
