This movie came out when I was 11 and my sister was 15 and we were OBSESSED with it. I have a tonnnn of nostalgic fondness for this movie.

Netflix is putting them up in the US every Friday, not sure if that’s happening in Canada...

Maybe they changed the movie radically in the time since, but I saw an early screener of Good Joe Bell eight months ago and it was not even C level. It was D or F level.

I assumed that it was actually to show maybe the similarities/possible solidarity between the groups — as even white Jewish folks are regularly discriminated against. At least that’s how I took it.

It’s MIND BLOWING. My sister has an autoimmune condition. My mom is in remission from leukemia. I have high blood pressure. So people (including some in my own family) think it’s totally cool if we all just die? Even tho we WOULDNT BE DYING otherwise??

No she said independently, not self published

I guess but does that mean that no one likes Clueless? 10 Things I Hate About You? The Lion King? Because those are all much farther removed from their source material and all widely beloved.

I’ve read this five times and still have no idea what you are saying.

Also I say all this as someone who used to hate Taylor Swift because I also thought she was “immature” or whatever and only “ironically” enjoying her stuff and then I had someone play Red for me like a million times in a row in 2014 and I realized that she was actually kind of a brilliant songwriter. And it helps that

But what qualifies as “more mature”? This also goes back to pop music not being taken seriously because it’s beloved by teenage girls. Has Taylor written some bubblegum pop songs? Yeah. Are most of her songs (up until this most recent album) about her relationships? Yeah. Guess who else largely has big songs about her

I had to work at an event Taylor was going to earlier this year and everyone was like “omg I’m so sorry you have to deal with those people.” With whom, passionate teenage girls? Were they loud? Yeah. But they were also all perfectly friendly and nice and the only issues I had at the event were with middle aged men.

Why do people begrudge giving Swift any respect? Incredibly talented songwriter and insanely astute businesswoman who had the game figured out by the time she was 16. It’s amazing how much people are blinded by their dislike of teenage girls and the music they like. (This is not really directed at you but I see this

I’m not saying that you’re wrong in most cases, but in this case the fact that she didn’t talk about this much until 4+ months later is the opposite of “look at me.” She could’ve been posting stories talking about her symptoms constantly if she were just looking to get attention or sympathy. This was an educational

Uhhhh yes if you’re wanting to experiment with BDSM and you’ve never tried it before you should DEFINITELY tell your partner that. That’s a safety hazard.

Yo Dowd, I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that the Valencia in O Valencia! is referring to Valencia Street in San Francisco. Can’t be bothered to look it up now but if anyone else has the same info lemme know where it’s from

Yepppp absolutely agree

I did not have that thought about the house party but I did have that thought about the street market.

I mean she did get held up at gun point! Which, knock on wood, is higher stakes than almost anything that’s happened in my life so far.

I don’t know if you’ve realized that with much of the entertainment industry in shutdown for months, the pool of content is somewhat smaller. Also, both here and the Ringer are huge on anniversary articles anyway.

God Alan Rickman made me feel so many things when I watched that movie growing up. That’s some real loyalty and heartache.
