Nah, that rumor was for the 4G Xoom and I'm not even sure that it was true, I've not seen any confirmation.

The $799/$599 on contract pricing is for the 3g/4g model. The $540 listed above is for the wifi only model which requires no contract and was previously stated to be $600, so it's 10% cheaper here than we thought.

You're right when it comes to the closed environment of a single app. But Matt's point in the article is that RAM is important for multitasking, and that's important and not dependent on the app developer to optimize.
