Most people who are talking about the post being snarky and condescending are also condemning the death threats, sexism, etc. You seem to be under the impression that this particular Venn diagram is nearly a circle when it’s quite the opposite. As always, there’s a vocal, violent minority that doesn’t actually care

Obviously harassment is bad. Thanks, after school special over.

They were being dicks about it when announced. A simple none condescending announcement would of been nice.

Oh look. Another Kotaku article that lists all the things they see as wrong with Valve/Steam yet glosses over anything wrong with Epic or the EGS. No mention at all about how Epic treats their employees as far as “crunch” goes since Fortnite got popular even though Kotaku loves pointing out that issue with every other

I dont want to pay money and give my information to an unproven unserviced 3rd party. Beyond that I dont want to support epic and pay money to epic. I should be free to choose where I want to buy something same way your free to choose where you shop for groceries it's a grossly simple concept.

^ This.
I was a huge Ooblets fan; been on their Discord a long while now, keep up with all their devlogs, etc... but I’m not okay with installing a Tencent-owned piece of software on my computer for a whole slew of reasons(such as not being okay with their aiding the PRC in the ongoing genocide and “reeducation” camps

The first sections are fine, ‘We are an Epic exclusive because Epic promised us a lot of money’. Great, that’s hard to turn down, we understand.  ‘Now we and our families feel more secure.’ Well good.

While I support their decision to do what makes sense for their company, especially financially, it felt like their counterarguments were mixed between easy lob shots and fraught fallacies:

Honestly, good for him. Twitch’s business/moderation policies are a goddamned mess — for a number of reasons, some of which have been covered on Kotaku before — and hopefully this gives them a much-needed kick in the ass to start making changes.

Or games lower their dev cost. Scale back on some features.  Don't make those bleeding edge graphics.

I fully support the message about harassment ... the microtransaction apologism, not so much. After 10 years of increasingly predatory monetization the “you don’t understand the videogame industry”and “it’s just cosmetics” excuses are hollow.

Moderation and how you play is more important than the reason for the stress imo. If you are jobless, absolutely go look for a job. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take an hour or two out of the day for yourself. I wouldn’t expect anyone to put in more hours a day looking for a job than most people spend working at

Your last remark is important, as moderation remains key with escapism. With MMOs in particular I’ve seen many people fall down too far into the well, as basically such games provide you with the sense that you’re accomplishing stuff. You check dailies off your list, do some more grinding, play an important role in

It all depends what kind of stress you’re under...

Video games helped distract me a lot after my dad passed away. Specifically the first Rock Band. Just getting people together felt great and helped me a lot.

I’ll take “guy who knows things” shtick over your “performative outrage” shtick any day of the week, thanks.

Jack Crosbie really wanted to tell NDT to “go back to where he came from”, but had to settle on “shut the fuck up”, because it is so much kinder and gentler, him being Mr Woke.

Counterpoint: NDT has taught me many things, and Jack Crosbie has not enriched my life in literally any conceivable way.

Yeah, no.

Saying you’re ‘boycotting’ a company for a day is a dumb as me saying I’m boycotting Walmart because I’m going tomorrow instead of today. Or that you’re boycotting a movie because you saw it on Sunday instead of Friday.
