Ironically, Ron Desantis’ poll numbers being such a drag makes him illegal in Florida!

The David Lynch version absolutely excelled at presenting Arrakis as an already brutal biome that had been made even more barren via the environmental stripmining of the first Harkonen regime there.
Neither of them is terribly good, honestly, but Lynch at least captured the feeling of a world where space travel is powered by taking a shitload of drugs. The Villeneuve version just isn’t weird enough for me. The technology designs feel too plausible. The costumes are too bland. The sets are… meh. Lynch made an…
What’s crazy is that the cinematographer was Vittorio Storaro, the same DP who shot Apocalypse Now.
The Sci-Fi miniseries was well-intentioned but a lot of the time it felt like a school play put on by the Rushmore kids.
All damn day long anywhere I go from newsfeeds to fucking youtube videos I keep seeing these monsters talking about how WE are the problem and then they go out and attempt to kill us. The echo chamber they live in has been steadily increasing in violent rhetoric for years and now we all have to wonder is this asshole…
I liked Dune. All of ‘em. Even Sci-Fi channel Dune.
This is exactly the intent of the right wing, to sow ignorance, hatred and eventual violence.
Lynch’s film is a piece of crap. Just compare the opening scene with Paul dreaming of Arrakis and Chani. Lynch’s is amateurish at best. Villeneuve’s is lovely and spare in getting the point across as well as having a great transition out of the dream. Lynch was interested in the weird bits of the story and little else.
The rhetoric is very much alive here in Canada with Pierre Poilievre (a faux-French fascist Albertan whose supporters can’t even pronounce his name), leader of the Opposition party who will be running against Trudeau for the PM’s office. He’s been taking his cues from the Trump playbook. Canada’s “premier polymath”,…
The FXX was way more $$$ in part because they made 30 of them...not 799. Is it just me or does 799 feel like a HUGE number for such a “limited production” Ferrari? I know we’re talking Ferrari terms but damn.
Paul in the 1984 actually is the white savior trope people accuse this version of being.
I think the Villeneuve movie is definitely a better adaptation of the book. He’d been a Dune fan since he was thirteen and there are probably shots in these movies that had been in his head for decades. I enjoyed Part One and I’m looking forward to Part Two.
5 bucks say Thomas comes back on this. Dude is notorious for holding grudges for decades about shit. His former pages told that Thomas was directly quoted as wanting to shoot down anything and everything Democratic after the Anita Hill hearings purely out of spite.
I went to law school in Florida. In one of the buildings, there are class photos of the graduating classes that go back as far as the late 1800s. About 150 yrs worth, now. The thing I noticed was that until the 1940s, there were ZERO women. Then one or two, every year or so from the late 1950s and well into the…
Dennis essentially just upgraded the special effects and copied David Lynch’s version (practically) shot for shot.
Horrifying and ironic. Clarence Thomas made his entire confirmation about victimhood, whining about how this was a high tech lynching. He’s been bitter, resentful and vindictive ever since.
Every overentitled white idiot who thinks their GPA should automatically get them into the college they like is still going to scream about how it’s totally affirmative action, but now it’s SECRET affirmative action. Delightful.
This Court has been nothing short of a horror show of ethically flawed behavior and a dystopian interpretation of the Constitution and its application to everyday life.
