Because, sadly, at some point within the last decade or so, the Gawker Media we knew and loved devolved into an angry echo chamber, where contrarian opinions are met with self-righteous fury, rather than thoughtful discussion, or hilarious replies in the comments. It’s a shame, but it is what it is - live and let

It’s exhausting - I forgot what it was like to have an opinion on something in the internet (somehow I’ve managed to avoid that for most of COVID). Last night I met up with a friend (who has more money than most of us can dream of, thanks to crypto - FWIW, I myself am still broke and dreaming) and he had a good

The difference is you can actually make money on them. Gods: Unchained is a pretty cool example - it’s like Hearthstone, except you can re-sell your cards if you decide you want to stop playing, rather than just being like, “Welp, that money’s gone forever.” Play-to-Earn instead of Free-to-Play is the business model a

This is a good comment (that will likely go otherwise unappreciated).

Cool thing about NFTs is that if you are even remotely interested in some of the potential applications of this emerging technology - and you have the shocking audacity to post about it online - you are devoured within moments by the masses.

Now playing

“Since both of these games allow players to redeem digital assets for real-world value, they would be running afoul of Steam’s new stance against such features.”

I find it intriguing (and perhaps rather telling on many fronts) that the ATVI stock price has not budged in any significant manner beyond normal market fluctuations amidst all this.

I dunno about you folks, but my BAC thinks this is a pretty fucking solid Article on Gaming in Journalism.

Just last night I was listening to our server talk to another person at the restaurant about how she’d just marathoned through the FF7 remake in like two days over the weekend because it was free on PS+ and there weren’t really any other games to play on PS5 right now.

I was ready to love it. I did not.

Agreed - quite the bummer, I’d much rather play on PS5 than my laptop.

A PS5 version of GW2 would be pretty awesome (though unlikely I imagine, given it’s always been a PC-only engine) - I would definitely dip back in for some nostalgia if they released that.

Yeah, I think if they did a GW3 it would have to change the core mechanics substantially the same way GW1->2 did - and I’d love to see what sort of refresh the team would come up with, especially with how the gaming landscape has changed - but I have no idea what that would look like either.

True - I’ve lost myself (and spent a big chunk) in GW2 several times - it’s just not the same going back to it (especially without any friends playing) as it was back in the day.

Right? So many interesting builds and matchups!

Golly, Guild Wars 1 and 2 were good times - and that’s not just the nostalgia speaking. Both were stunningly gorgeous for their time, shockingly bold in their design choices for the cookie-cutter MMO era (that skill system in GW1 was unbelievably fun and diverse for build nuts like me), and - okay - buried in some AAA

Yeah it was pretty ridiculous. My girlfriend is super into AC and we woke up at 6am our time to try to add it to the cart at 8am CST on the dot. Literally both did it in the first minute, both got the “this item is no longer available” on checkout message.

Yeah when I go on mobile sprees my AAA spending evaporates pretty much entirely. Trick is knowing when to stop and not getting sucked into gacha holes with that “one more pull and maybe I’ll get them” mentality (which happens all too frequently for me). I keep playing them, though, so clearly it’s something I enjoy

Right? Is was surprisingly wonderful and unexpected. First thing that put Armie Hammer on my radar - shame he turned out to be a legit psychopath. Hard to be too shocked by anything these days, though.

I hope he’s not a secret cannibal like his co-star in that spy movie that was surprisingly solid yet quickly forgotten forever ago.
