THANK YOU! This was really what I was trying to get across, you are much more eloquent at getting this across. If this was the whole story, it was shitty behavior on the employer's part but nit necessarily illegal.

Thank you for helping clear that up. That was what my original understanding was, that it was more than a few minutes on Friday. Thanks for including the detail about the flexibility of daily prayers too.
Have you checked out Groupthink or The Couch? Really great sub-blogs with supportive members. Perfect fit this kind of rant, come join us...
Thanks for the additional background info!
Sometimes when articles are on a sub-blog, like Kitchenette, there is a smaller and usually friendlier group of people in the comments. Things have been known to get nasty once a wider community gets involved. I don't like getting a bunch of notifications that tell me I have a bunch of responses full of vitriol. Like…
By that argument, if I said that nobody was guaranteed time off work when requested that's discrimination? Discrimination is disparate treatment based upon some grouping. So if this guy is treating Muslims and Christians the same way, I think the argument for discrimination would be difficult to prove.
I couldn't agree more! I waitressed and bartended for years and it is such bullshit. I'm a software developer now, and a lot of people don't understand why I push so hard for an increased minimum wage and for reasonable benefits for all workers. You shouldn't need to go to college or make a lot of money to be treated…
My tolerance for bullshit has been decreasing for years. At 40, I still try to be nice, but you don't want to cross me. I will totally play up the crazy card. I was just taking to my mom about this, actually. Someone confronts me, I will actually beat on my chest and scream "bring it!" It scares most people off :)
I'm with you on the attitude thing. I never hide my feelings, but my PMS is terrifying. Nobody deserves it. Well, at least before I discovered my hormone imbalance. I would literally cry all day in my office for 4 days before my period. It made my all male coworkers extremely uncomfortable, but I refused to waste my…
I would have cunt-punched any manager who dared to tell me how to deal with my period difficulties! My cramps are worse than my labor was, and I had my daughter without the benefit of an epidural. My cramps are so bad they make me vomit. And period poops? What you want me running to the bathroom every 15 minutes…
I appreciate any baby steps that a member of the GOP takes. Women's issues should be important to both sides. Congrats to her for stepping up to speak on the issue!
That is one IDGAF dog!
Oh shit! This hit MP'D? I may follow suit and get out of the conversation. I really enjoyed your perspective though, thanks for the thinking points!
Do you work in an "at will" state? Because where I am, in an at will state, reneging on an agreement of available hours is very very common and you do not have protection against it. It's a shitty thing to do to the employee, but totally legal and somewhat expected.
Thank you so much for coming and adding that! See, that right there makes the entire story for me! If schedules accommodate the employees of other religions, then definitely this is a huge fucking deal! I just wasn't seeing that in the article.
I completely agree that it is asshole-ish behavior, but doesn't a claim of discrimination imply unequal treatment? So if EVERYBODY is getting equally screwed is it discrimination?
What bothers me about this is that there is no mention of the treatment of other employees who were granted specific schedules to accommodate their religious practices. Are there employees who ask for Saturday or Sunday off for their own religious practices? I even went and read the article and didn't see any mention…
So they are now controlling men's reproductive rights? This is just as shitty as all of the abortion and birth control laws in the US.
So, their religion doesn't override educational requirements, but a corporation's religion can override my reproductive rights. Ookaaayyyy......
This is exactly how I used to do it!
