I think it’s simpler than that: The AV Club just hates Sam Mendes. Anything the dude touches they treat like they were Hearst publications talking about Orson Welles.

John loved Yoko passionately, but surely we’re past the point where anyone can take their story seriously if it’s pitched as simply as, “love, courage and activism”. It was just as much about, “neediness, greed and heroin”.

7. Ten year headstart growing out beard for inevitable gig as mall Santa.

I got the 25th Anniversary version a few months back and I was also pleasantly surprised at how well it held up. Probably my favorite REM album - or at least a statistical tie with Life’s Rich Pageant.

I suppose the answer is that they’re just movies. Have fun with them, dude.

To me, the most devastating part was when Sting’s mod god character ends up as a bell boy and the way that crushes Jimmy’s spirit. I related to that. I was never a mod, but I did swallow the grunge ethos whole. Once that scene dried up, I was so lonely. It felt like I was the only guy who actually believed in it -

Yeah, I think the Dawes comparison is pretty apt.

You’re kidding me. Like, there’s no way on Earth you think I’m going to fall for that line of attack, right?

Cramming too many disparate ideas into a review of a Zack Snyder DC movie? That’s not a bug, bro. That’s a feature.

Not that I’m opposed to it, but I do find it a little weird that people keep suggesting making Apu rich as a way to solve the problem. What does it solve? It sounds odd to me. Like it’s being suggested that the problem with Apu can be solved with (imaginary) money.

They should call her Nose McGowan. On account of the narcotics.

They should call it “The Amazing Lord of the Rings” and spend a bunch of time on what happened to Frodo’s parents.

I can understand that feeling about BotW, but I’d encourage you to just embrace it. It’s absolutely one of those games where, if you don’t know what to do or feeling kind of lost, just run in any direction and look around. For me, it’s about the closest any game has ever come to that feeling of exploring the woods

First day at the AV Club?

I don’t know if it’s “cancel your concert” cold, but let’s not act like 40 degrees ain’t pretty damn cold. Come on.

You have a point, but I’d say some stuff ages well and other stuff doesn’t. But it’s a crapshoot to determine what’s gonna last. You can go back and see wildly popular Bob Hope routines where huge crowds are exploding with laughter and get no laughs out of it today. Then contrast that with Rodney Dangerfield stuff

My favorite costume was also the weirdest one I ever wore. At a certain point, I preferred making my own costumes. Which was great - I was mustachioed ghost one year, the headless horseman, the world’s most budget-level Ghostbuster....

Waiting for the inevitable “David Cross Repents” AV Club headline.

I have no idea. Clearly a lot of people knew he was scuzzy, but I still think it’s an open question how many people knew he was basically a serial rapist. I don’t think Obama or Clinton or even Trump (you’ve seen the pictures by this point, I’m sure) spent a lot of time thinking about Harvey Weinstein, and I think the

Yeah. I tried to locate the quote, but I haven’t been able to find it. So far I’m just chalking it up to the obvious: Ebert cares more about movies than rock music, so of course he thinks one actor is more important than an entire movement of musicians who were making music when he was in his late 40s. No harm, no
