How'd it get burned?

“I just don’t understand what elevates it to genius. What makes it so superior to other, similar-sounding sample based rap?”

Hey, I can now sort comments! When did that happen? Well done to whoever made it happen, for my money that now makes this commenting system almost on a par with the previous one.

...on Facebook...

That might help explain the pacing issues of the last season...

The Bible. King James Version, straight up and straight through. Was only occasionally an endurance test, and overall surprisingly fun times.

Lots of people mentioning Brand New and sex offences, but having not heard of said offences (or Brand New previously) I found the album not great. The first track was a stone-cold amazing 9/10, but after that the others were disappointing, getting to around a 7 at best.

Personally I like the way Her made the street scenes look like the future by the cunning trick of... filming in Shanghai.

“Motherless child does thou believe / That thine afflictions have caused us to grieve?”

And the TV’s good

Is there some tehnical reason why Twin Peaks isn’t on that list? Don’t get me wrong, Handmaid’s Tale was great and I’d be happy to see it win, but... Twin Peaks!

Disclaimer: recommends do not necessarily indicate agreement, just trying to help people out of the greys.

I like it, but a lot of that’s to do with the concept. The main problem is that the antagonists are far more interesting than the protagonists. As I recall the second season handles that better, though, if only by having the main characters split up.

I vote Boxer, largely because Slow Show is my favourite thing they’ve ever done and Guest Room and Ada come very close.

....also, what?

Thanks y’all! Good to have my inexpert impressions confirmed. Usually I don’t notice good playing of anything- I could hear the greatest guitar solo in the world and say ‘yup, that sounded nice’. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s the drums that makes it stand out.

Funny you should mention Coldplay... this is probably deeply offensive to some, but I think of High Violet as a really good version of Coldplay. Something to do with the warm, fuzzy, layered sound, plus the anthemicness of England.

“their albums take longer to grow on you than any other band I can think of”

Question, because I know nothing about music: do The National have an unusually good drummer? They seem to have more interesting (and prominent) percussion than most bands I can think of.

Last night I was inclined to agree, but right now I seem to be suffering from Twin Peaks withdrawal symptoms. That was an incredible ride.
