I think the current narrative is this:

The president can’t obstruct justice because he is the president, but even if he did it wasn’t obstruction and that even if he could obstruct justice, he can pardon himself, which he would never do.

Also, he can’t be interviewed by Mueller because if he did, it’s a perjury trap…
