It’s got to be a genuine concern that Will Smith has now normalised assaulting stand-up comedians. If an A-lister can do it on the Oscar stage and get a standing ovation half an hour later, goodness knows nobody at a comedy club is now safe. And yeah, Chris Rock’s joke was unfunny and ableist, but still.

I agree, but not in this situation.

Honestly, when this happened, my first thought was “How is Fox News going to use this to say something about Hollywood elites/make Trump look better?” The problem is that with Fox News, violence is always an answer, so they can’t condemn that. But saying hurtful shit and saying “I’m just joking!” is also at the top of

Two people can simultaneously be differing degrees of wrong. You don’t have to cheer for either.

I’ve heard that Power of the Dog was about toxic masculinity. Mostly I thought it was boring-as-fuck cheese nonsense that had almost nothing to do with real people or real life.

Absolutely. It was a joke in terrible taste. But… you can’t hit people because they made you mad. That’s still assault.

I mean, it was COMPLETELY unexpected, wasn’t it? If you had to take a guess on 10,000 things that would’ve happened at the Oscars tonight, “Will Smith attacking Chris Rock on stage” would not have been on that list. In a bar, in a home, in private, yes, totally understandable (though still wrong). But on the goddam

Not going to happen unless Rock presses charges, which he won’t because he’s not a baby.

At least G.I. Jane got a mention at the Oscars!

This. Violence isn’t the answer, but I don’t think it’s necessarily an unexpected response to publicly embarrassing one’s spouse on national tv.

More like Chris Rock’s, if we’re being honest.

Not the right response but an understandable response.

Well, I can’t wait to see how this plays out in the coming days/hours.

That was Will Smith’s biggest hit in years.

I think it was in poor taste to make a joke about her alopecia on national tv with her sitting a few yards away.

Unfortunately too many in Russia are still depending on television for news... and it’s the people who could rise up and end Putin’s insanity fastest if they just knew. Poverty and limited access to (good) internet gives authoritarian governments a helping hand.

“Putin’s interpretation of Soviet power seems to be on par of what a MAGA’s interpretation of the U.S. Constitution is.”

Putin will soon announce the main objective of the war has been won, with the destruction of this museum, I assume. There seems to be little purpose to the entire conflict other than pure killing and destruction.

That the guy is safe is indeed the most important thing here.

And all of these bullshits during 2016 Elections nonetheless.
