No, I don’t have my own router. I get free Gigabit internet as part of my rent. The building has one public and one private network with a policy against setting up your own network in order to prevent the awful interference you would get if 200 apartments each had their own wifi network.

Because you are supposed to only use the public network for guest traffic while everything else is supposed to go on the WPA2 network. As for why the ethernet port in the living room has the restrictions of the public network I have no clue. Not really worth fighting with the landlords over as I’m moving in 6 months…

As someone who’s network situation prevents them from getting their Xbox connected to online game servers (long story, my appartment has 2 wifi networks, one public which blocks the IPs used for most multiplayer services and one WPA2 encrypted which has access to everything. Game consoles can’t connect to WPA2…
