I also want to amend this statement with any upgrades amounting in emission reductions yields less emitting cars, not just “efficiency” from heat in, electric power out perspective.

True. I was being a bit flippant and oversimplifying the statement.
You know that business use electric energy right? To like manufacture stuff. To heat their building or to light it . Anyone who has enough capital to self generate would be smart enough to buy a little more gen to be able to make energy to sell to others. Markets exist for a reason.
Transmission is already above 90% efficient. The key is to run units at max efficiency while still matching load. That is achieved through more distributed gen and better demand response data. The internet of everything will allow for much better power scheduling.
Yep there are learning curves with all newly adapted tech. Hopefully a bunch of people buy these and prove EVs are perfectly capable as ICE and possibly even more capable. I’ll do my best to get one (any decent ranged EV with fast charging), I know that.
BTW, the electric utility industry and oil and gas industry are complimentary. We help them extract and process fuels and they give us fuels to make energy. It is not petrol vs electricity. It is about emissions reductions.
Hey sorry for being a little prickly about it. Tesla has all those answers. They track every EV of theirs on the road.
Your big picture no. The electrification of nearly everything in the US, yes I am quite familiar with.
This child needs a leash don’t worry.
Actually I’m well aware. I work for an electric utility you half whit. My previous cars were a 2003 WRX that was modded by me and before that a 1986 5.0 mustang that was also modded by me with some “beaters” in between.
Modest gains.
They are.
People want electric clearly. I am not saying these are made of unicorn farts and unobtainium. It is an exciting product that is going to be offered. I’m looking forward to many more electric vehicles especially for us middle class people.
Nope just letting you know you can gain range going downhill. Energy is hard.
Yea my escape with the same 2.0 L turbo is sitting at 18.4 mpg this tank. I drive the piss out of it sometimes. I have also averaged 34 mpg.
Beats is being consolidated while Tesla is rapidly expanding.
Yep at 5¢ per kWh offpeak I’ll fill my Tesla for about 4 dollars. Pretty cheap.
Well stay tuned to Tesla auto then. They will take their very large number of preoders and start building out more charging stations and dump even more $ into R&D.
Driving down the pass home will be collecting some of that energy back. Obviously most of you have never driven or even ridden in a modern electric propelled auto.
Tesla has paid back all their Fed backed loans I’m pretty sure. The subsidies are open to anyone making an electric vehicle.
