I mean, for most enthusiasts, the GT isn’t an option at all. For those who can afford it, I have no idea which one they’d choose though.

“Good thing this company is going bankrupt this year. Good riddance.”

I’m kinda curious about why he upsets you so much, but I have a feeling that’s just opening the door for some rant. In any case, I can respect that you feel that way even if I don’t agree with you.

You’re assuming humans will remain more capable and predictable drivers than computers. I don’t really see a reason to assume that’ll be the case in the long run. We seem to make this assumption with a lot of areas related to autonomy, that because things are a certain way *now* they’ll remain that way.

Tribalism, faith, and willful ignorance/confirmation bias can be an incredibly potent cocktail that’s nigh impossible to dilute. People can rationalize virtually anything for as long as they feel comfortable.

I do think one of the ways government *might* be helpful is by either mandating a universal standard by a certain point in time or making sure that all public chargers are usable by all cars. I know that isn’t fair to Tesla specifically right now, but in the long run having walled gardens and competing standards

I agree, but I’m not sure this is solely relying on government. The destination chargers Tesla already has were just a result of them reaching out to various places and putting them wasn’t it? I’d imagine building out a network like that would be a combination of government investment and companies having an incentive

You’re right, but his thinking on subjects like this isn’t that complicated. If his base thinks it makes him look strong while upsetting “the left”, which is apparently all that matters to a lot of people that voted for him, there’s a pretty significant chance he’ll do it. This is the same guy who basically said that

Eh. I learned a long time ago to not assume a politican wouldn’t do something that’d hurt the country, if they perceive it to be advantageous in some way for them. Trump is no different in that regard, so we’ll see. I’ve seen plenty of people confidently claim he wouldn’t do some stupid thing only for him to run into

The idea is that people shouldn’t have to rely on dedicated stations, the superchargers are only supposed to be a small part of it. You ideally want universal charging stations everywhere, so you can top up while you’re asleep, at work, eating dinner at a restaurant, or wherever else you spend a lot of time.

That’s not really an accident, a lot of people benefit greatly from our country’s increasing tribalism.

To be honest with you, I can’t remember the last time my phone died on me in public but that’s probably because when I’m working or out and about I’m not using it heavily. At least for me, I’m not saying it’s the case for everyone, I’ve set my phone to only update when it’s charging during certain times. And I mean...

IMHO people, especially journalists, have a well established track record of focusing on non-issues when it comes to tech and ignoring things that might actually be dangerous. But, I think part of that is the instinctual fear of change that so many of us have and catastrophic thinking is the default because of it.

The brake lights still turn on under regenerative braking my dude.

Pretty much, yeah. The whole “gubmint bad!” line gets a little old to me when people don’t even at least try to track what it’s actually doing.

I swear I’ve read more than once that our loss in Vietnam was mostly that we weren’t willing to do what was necessary in order to win it, the cost would’ve been to both morally and financially. I don’t know we would have the ability to resist a hostile alien power with technology 100X more advanced than ours long

Most cars have hilariously bad security on that front, so more or less yeah. Granted, that’s more the case with physical access than doing so remotely. Cyber security is a never-ending arms race that requires constant vigilance, but automakers -barring Tesla and maybe a few others- have been particularly bad at caring

I’m pretty sure they were saying you’d be limited to a lot more than 112 mph in those areas.

I can’t help but read this comment as you spitting out the word “saftey” with pure contempt at the very idea of it, and it’s hilarious to me.

There are manual controls for necessary functions as a back up, or they can be used if that’s what the pilot prefers. They didn’t design it without taking that into account.
