I read it as ‘normal’ vs her crazy celebrity family. His family lived near mine for a while when they were teens so I know some of their high school classmates, from what I gather they were just a regular suburban family back then. Never heard anything abt them being weird religious conservatives or anything.

I agree, I was also sold on the idea that my depression and anxiety made me sensitive and brilliant as a kid. I think this validation of mental illness has escalated to the current ‘your feelings are valid’ trend amongst younger people now — there’s a lot of ‘you are beautiful and special and your feelings are valid /

I’ve read that when dogs eat their owners’ corpse, it starts out as anxious licking of their face because they’re confused and worried, and then something triggers their instincts and they eat. From what I read it’s not associated with dogs who have been neglected or abused.

I’ve clearly just seen too many political intrigue tv shows, haha. I also wouldn’t have been surprised if Biden’s team leaked it.

It’s common for people to be unclear about indigenous heritage here in Oz too, because white supremacy did such a good job of disrupting indigenous families and communities that the history can be difficult to track. Someone genuinely believing they have indigenous family history just because their parent told them

Yeah, I like Bernie, I like his policies, I’ll be happy enough for the US if he wins the nomination (I’m not American) but I don’t believe for a second that he doesn’t have a huge ego, because everything he’s done until now has shown that it IS about him. There is zero reason that a 78 year old man who just had a

Do we know for a fact that it was Warren’s team that leaked this? Because, honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was someone in Sanders team that leaked this in the first place, since it forces Warren into an offensive position while also giving pundits an excuse to spend weeks talking abt whether a woman can be

Dude. I’m sorry, but he absolutely said it.

find it more frustrating that Bernie would deny saying it than that he said it in the first place. If he’d just come out and said that he doesn’t remember but was clearly feeling pessimistic at the time and that he’d love to see a female president, I’d have no issue. Denying it is the same playbook dudes use

Yeah I thought they were just clarifying that they would no longer be paid by the public, otherwise people would complain that they were still taking money but not fulfilling duties.

She also seems pretty professional and I find it hard to imagine her refusing to do press because of a feud. Seems more likely that she just had other responsibilities.

I’ve seen a friend go through brigading by far right trolls and that kind of bombardment seems kind of inextricable from physical violence to mE. It might be all psychological, but the effect is the same — ongoing fear and trauma. It would be one thing if progressive cancellers kept it kind of pacifist — still a

I think there’s eventually going to be an avalanche of downfalls of people who have become prominent on social media as progressive ‘activists’ as we realise a lot of them are actually just total assholes selfishly capitalising on the movement. Social media wokeness notoriety is narcissistic personality disorder bait.

I think the writing style has become so ingrained in some people that they legitimately don’t realise when they’re being genuinely cruel for no reason. I don’t really understand the point of wokeness without compassion.

Two main characters died in the most recent movie. Not saying they’re constantly at risk of death, just that they’re about on par with Harry Potter characters.

Not saying you have to like them at all, for any reason, but Marvel movies have actually featured quite a few permanent deaths, esp of parents and family members. I think the only ‘is this real?’ death I can think of is Loki, all of the other dead family members stayed that way.

I think part of the problem is we’re all using kind of nebulous terms that we understand differently, so we’re not having clear discussions and sometimes talking at cross purposes.

Yeah, I’m also in NFP healthcare with government contracts and my company is great about parental leave for anyone, and I’ve heard the public sector is good too. The people I know who have had problems work mostly in male-dominated small to mid-size corporates. The large corporates eg PwC seem to be pretty good.

I haven’t read the survey results but amongst my friends in Australia(early to mid-30s so lots of new parents) the experience is that even though parental leave is available to men, they still face a lot of pressure not to take it, mostly from their immediate supervisors. Most of us are on one or two year contracts,

I agree. Kamala Harris’ record would never have been ‘moot’, it would always have damaged her with some voters, but it could absolutely have bolstered her with others. I don’t know if they didn’t lean into that because that’s not the kind of president she wants to be or if they just didn’t have faith that they could
