Plus if you can afford an attorney but don’t use one you’re kind of dickishly putting more pressure on the overburdened public defenders.

Same, that poor kid.

If my brother did this and I had the money I might still pay for his lawyers, even if I believed he did it. Everyone should have decent legal representation. It’s the foundation of the western criminal justice system.

I’m a vegetarian with two dogs and two cats. I’ve definitely thought about the conflict between my vego ethics and my pets’ diet, and I always feel pretty gross feeding them, but I’m not a puritanical vegetarian. I don’t think it’s inherently morally wrong to eat meat, it’s just wrong for me because I don’t need it to

Whenever a non-vego complains or makes jokes about dog meat I remind them that pigs are as intelligent as a small child.

Right. As long as she’s getting paid it seems like it’s probably the easiest thing she’d do all day.

Slow news day?

Honestly it seems way less objectionable than the outside-the-job-description tasks most people get snared into at their jobs, especially in service industries.

Thanks for the rec, I’ll check it out.

I think most people aren’t aware, so those of us who are really alarmed by this show just seem kind of hysterical.

There’s actually a lot of statistical evidence that some adolescents are more likely to attempt suicide if they’re exposed to depictions or descriptions of someone else’s suicide. That’s why even in the news theyre usually so vague about it.

Yeah, if you could limit it to functional/well-adjusted adultish types watching it I wouldn’t have such a problem with it.

Sure, some teens are smarter than we give them credit for, and some are far more vulnerable than we realise. Suicide contagion triggered by media coverage of suicides is actually a well known issue with strict media guidelines going back decades.

I agree that we need to find ways of talking about suicidal feelings that aren’t so alienating for people with depression, but I think we can still do that without being nearly so reckless as 13 Reasons Why — there are a lot of specific things it contains that have been identified as dangerous, like explicitly showing

I’ve also had depression/anxiety my whole life and wouldn’t have been vulnerable to this show — BUT I still agree with the experts that there are some teens with depression that would be.

Yes. This is the frustrating thing to explain to people. I could care less about 99% of teens watching this. Personally I think the show is riddled with problems, but they’ll form their opinions about it and move on. But it’s those outliers — the types of depressive teens that are vulnerable to suicide contagion —

This is a well photographed coma

I would watch Amber Ruffin do anything.

I saw Che at the Melbourne Comedy Festival a couple years ago. He was great, but it was clear he hadn’t bothered to prepare at all. He’d flown halfway around the world to one of the world’s biggest comedy festivals and seemed as if he had no plan at all. The first fifteen minutes were a bit excruciating but he

It reminds me of this old Korean Samsung campaign with BoA, Tablo and Junsu, but without talent or charm.
