Yeah, I don’t think she intended to be so hurtful but at the same time I understand why he reacted the way he did – there have been moments in my life when I would have taken it too seriously too.

Same.

His joke was terrible too but that doesn’t make hers ok. Also I’m pretty sure she planned to say that all along – her delivery was scripted.

Idk whether she intended it to be about his weight but I can tell you that as someone who grew up fat he 99.99999999999999% took it that way because he’s heard it before, many many many times.

I’m a woman. This was about looks.

I’m really confused by the fact that people don’t see this as a fat joke. It’s so clear to me. Is this a side effect of growing up fat and hearing similar jokes my whole life?

Come on, this joke makes absolutely no sense if she’s not mocking Jonah Hill for not being as hot as Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. This was absolutely a fat joke.

As a fat woman I don’t really see this as an example of punching upward.

I think a lot of people are missing a third power dynamic here, which is a thin, conventionally attractive person mocking a fat person. Thin privilege exists. As a fat woman I don’t really appreciate seeing men who struggle with their weight mocked for their appearance any more than I would a woman.

Yeah, being sober and having what sounds like a dog allergy... I was super excited for her to be awful. Lame.

Right, if anything I thought Naya Rivera came off as a huge asshole and Lea Michele just vaguely eye-rolly. The comments about Cory Monteith not partying with them anymore were particularly tone deaf.

I see a lot of their awful stuff because their clearance outlet is really close to my house – basically their awful stuff is AWFUL but their great stuff is really great. Plus I’ll always be sort of fond and grateful to them because they were the probably the first young person’s plus size chain in Australia. They came

Such a great dress, I’ve got a black and a floral. I’ve recently lost weight and now have the opposite problem with them — not quite enough boobs to fill them out. Considering getting them altered (the dresses, not the boobs) because they’re just too great to give up.

I find ASOS so hit and miss, especially in regards to sizing.

Yeah, I’ve had this dress in a few different prints and it’s great. The only thing I hate about it is that my boobs are smaller than it expects so it ends up super super low cut, I have to wear something under it.

Then they cut holes out of the upper arms to make it “sexy”.

Is it common in the US to be this rigid and prescriptive about what is and isn’t professional? My Aussie offices have always been very flexible business casual but even my friends who work in uptight conservative spaces would be fine wearing an a-line skirt as long as it had that indefinable “office-y” quality.

Wow I didn't know this but it's such a quintessentially LJ story. It really takes me back to 2004.

This is how I feel about it. Falling in love with someone else is unfortunate but sometimes unavoidable. It’s only lying about it that is immoral.

Hence why I’m team nobody
