There are so many young girl victims on the other side of things that people are willing to shrug away. This double standard is totally about men not wanting to feel victimized or on the same level as a woman.

Exactly what I was thinking.
Scientology will make it extremely difficult to get anything on Masterson.
Kevin Spacey’s accuser was a man. Men get believed. Women don’t.
absolutely. even as victims of abuse, society values men over women.
His case is especially bad considering that the victims 1) actually filed police reports, 2) did so years BEFORE the Weinstein fall out 3) allege violent rape and not “just” harassment, 4) Scientology is currently in the spotlight for exactly this kind of shit and 5) these particular victims have a lot of public good…
You work for Hulu?
I had a slightly different but equally depressing take on why the allegations against Spacey were taken seriously right away: they were made by a man, and men can be trusted (unlike those lying, gold-digging WHORES)
Roy Moore is getting the harshest review of his fellow politicians, though. Not from the voters in Alabama, but people treated it seriously, and it certainly got more attention than the Conyers allegations. I think Polanski would be treated differently today as well.
Scientology.
I think it may be a combination of homophobia plus there being at least one child victim, but the results end up being odd, especially given the economics incentives. Reshooting House of Cards is a pretty big deal.
I was reading an article earlier that argued there was a degree of homophobia in the reaction to Spacey. Like everyone was quick to drop him (not wrongly) but it remains to be seen if straight men will face the same consequences. Anyone have any thoughts?
I feel like I’d only be surprised if an Entourage extra said “wow nobody groped me on set”
Yeah it’s not ‘lying’ it just happens to not be true.
I’m sorry you went through that. What a tough thing for a kid to have to deal with. I’d put your mother in a separate category, though, if she has schizophrenia. Mental illness means that the regular definitions of truth and falsehood don’t really apply, because your mother wouldn’t have been able to tell the…
I think “believe women” is like black lives matter in that the “too” unspoken is implied. The intent was never “only black lives matter”. Believe women means all claims should be taken seriously and investigated. It doesn’t mean want a woman says is always 100% true and accurate regardless of any other facts.
My mother also lied about my grandfather abusing my sister. We found out later in life that it was impossible. She just makes excuses for it. Nothing is ever her fault.
I completely follow you. If a stranger accused say my dad of something I would literally need it on tape for me to believe it. He is a good man, I know it.
Lena Dunham needs to apologize for all of her apologies.
She doesn’t:
