I want to produce a light-hearted sitcom where a gun-toting gangbanger breezes into the protagonists’ apartment, pistol whips them, and steals all their stuff.
I dare you to watch anything from the 80s now. TV was funny until about 1975, then it was like they forgot how to be funny. It wasn’t until the early 90s that they got back on track. I loved Mork and Mindy as a kid, and I can’t get through 5 minutes of it now.
The latter episodes suffered from Karen/Jack overdose and had the trope of no locked doors. Characters would just walk right into apartments with no knocking or keys. I read somewhere that when a sitcom is at that point, it’s pretty much admitting it’s a shitfest.

One of the episodes of The Leftovers this season opened with the theme from Perfect Strangers and then actually had Mark-Linn Baker in the episode. I squealed and had the best nostalgic flashback. I would love another season of cousin Balki.
It is. I mean, I thought it was bad when I was watching it, due to the fact that Will never got any, but damn, those repeats! (shudder)

I rewatched some Will & Grace a while back. I remember really liking the show when it was on, but it does not have lasting power. It felt aggressively unfunny, and dated in a way that is more awkward than charming. Not sure if a reboot would fix that stuff.
