He also was very good in the BBC’s two part gay drama The Man in an Orange Shirt which is where I first remember seeing him (spoiler, he plays the man in an orange shirt). I admit I NEVER would have compared him with Jake G, but I kinda see it now in the eyes.

To be fair, I would much rather expose myself to the germs on my own finger than those on a spoon that’s been in four other people’s mouths. And would rather be exposed to the germs from someone else’s finger than from their mouth.

Do we really need another Cleopatra movie?

You may be thinking of something other than what is commonly known as a Z-pack.  That’s an antibiotic.  It generally comes in packs of 6, and you take two the first day and one each day for the next 4, then you’re done.  You may be thinking of steroids that are in a package of 21 - 6 the first day, then 5, then 4,

Can we start placing a content warning on these Trump header pictures? Jesus, I’d rather be surprised by that artist’s rendering of the Babadook.

The price of everything going up, but the minimum pay not moving much probably contributes. I got like $10 an hour in highschool which was ok to good, but not unique and a kid these days with a crappy job probably makes about the same. It’s been 20 years, also college just got more and more expensive since then.

Any data that comes up with “circus peanuts” as any state’s favorite candy cannot be trusted.

And Tootsie pops. Tootsie rolls barely count (and a strong argument can be made for exclusion); the pops do not.

And Reese’s Pieces. There’s no chocolate in those. That’s what’s wrong with them.

When they list Payday bars as chocolate, it makes me question the entire map.

I’d reccomend trying the Vulture reviews. The writer over there (who straight up wrote a biography on Shirley Jackson) notes an initial skepticism at the series, but doesn’t insist on dwelling on the differences every review.

I feel as though there just needs to be a disclaimer at the top of every review: This is not and will never never never never never Xs infinity be as good as the 60 year old book which is basically the bestest thing ever, period.

Completely agreed and extremely well put. For me, I realized it was really telling that this is only the third episode and reading this my reaction was already ‘Yeah, I get it. It’s not the book. Will you please just get over it?’

Yeah, it’s really weird. The whole tone of the review is kind of oddly hostile to the degree I don’t really know what to think. I’m not arguing that reviews can’t be critical, far from it, but this is from that start such a weird review as it almost seems most offended that it deviates from the book. I guess.

It for sure happens when a teacher recommends a kid see a psychologist or social worker, especially if the child is at-risk or in foster care. My sister is a kindergarten teacher and when she reports disturbing behavior or a decline in development, it doesn’t matter what the guardians want, the kid gets sent to a

Having watched two episodes and read two recaps, I really wish someone else were writing these. Predictably, this review focused on horror tropes. Predictably, it also complained about how it’s inferior to the source material. Predictably -- perhaps inevitably -- it missed the deftness of the storytelling, the way

How unlikely is it for a sexual abuser of children to let that child go to therapy and discuss the boogeyman who’s stalking her? The, “he’s so confident and full of hubris that he thinks he’s invulnerable” doesn’t really fly because children are not exactly rock steady at keeping secrets. That is specially true when

Yeah, I’m enjoying the show so far and never expected a completely faithful adaptation, so the repeated “why isn’t this like the book???” is getting old...

I’m beginning to think that the problem with these ‘binge’ reviews is that they don’t give the reviewer time to move on from their initial impression (also they get knocked off the front page too quickly, but that’s a different issue.) In this case, we’ve got three consecutive reviews of “this isn’t like the book. I

Are all of these reviews going to be devoted to bitching about the adaptation or lack thereof? Haven’t we s known for a while that the story was a lot different from the book and that they just basically adopted the setting?
