It's a thing with airguns. Not bb guns, but once you get into bigbores it definitely makes a cloud.

Bb, pellet, airsoft are not the same thing. These days you can buy an off the shelf pellet gun that will kill a buffalo with a single shot. And yeah, a big bore will have a gas flash. So likely something pcp, .25 or larger.
