Fun fact — my 2018 GTI still has something similar — suggesting gear changes on the dash. It’s a “bit” more sophisticated because it actually suggests the gears, for example 4 — 6, instead of a simple upshift. It’s subtle, however.

I’m with you about the beauty of the 288 . . . the F40 is such a disappointment, aesthetically, after such a gorgeous predecessor.
My dad had an Alfetta . . . it was glorious when it was running. Which wasn’t often due to some sketchy prior maintenance. Sadly even when it wasn’t running, it was rusting . . .
He’s just made the wrong choices . . .
Ah, the British industry in the 1970s. So close . . . yet so far.
The Granada was not too bad looking. I think the Fairmont was much more handsome, however.
Right! Thanks . . .
I saw him race at Mosport a few times. I’m not sure I understand the reference though I can infer the gist.
Vanilla ISIS . . .
I’m sorry for stealing your joke . . .
Virtually indistinguishable from a Mercedes Benz . . .
Your argument is persuasive, and I don’t think the Excalibur should count.
That’s good information to contrast my experience, and certainly corroborates what the machinist told me. I suspect that he has likely rebuilt more SBCs than any other so if it is an issue with that engine, he’d certainly have known.
The machinist who looked at my engine told me there was some sort of plastic part of the oil pump that could interfere with flow — he spoke as if he knew what he was talking about. I’m certainly not trying to pass on incorrect information. There are enough other known areas of concern with that Lt1 for people to read…
High Performance Driving Event (lapping).
It may teach a valuable lesson. You may not enjoy it, but not all learning is enjoyable. Others may enjoy it, though.
There are some great aftermarket coil-over packages that would be worth investigating if one wanted to make an HPDE car . . .
I think this option also has the bigger brakes. Though an upgrade to C5 front calipers and rotors is a better solution for HPDE.
The six speed adds appeal though. It may not go crazy, value wise, but it is certainly rare which may make depreciation much less likely.
I owned a C4, LT1, six-speed. It was a fun car, and I really enjoyed my time on track and autocross in it. Until I spun a bearing in the motor. If I recall there are some oiling issues with the motor (I did it on a race track at an HPDE). The Lt1 is a bit of an orphan . . . not a classic 350, and not an ubiquitous…
