Try being a Canadian. Our speech is a mix of the Queen’s English and terms used by our southern neighbours. I chuckled when I read your chart of terms because I hear both in everyday shop talk up here. Except for spanner... makes sense, sounds odd.

Eww. Hmm. Take a plastic bag with you and put the paper one in it? Improvise. Overcome. Curry!

In the UK, some manufacturers put ‘curry hooks’ in their cars - some in the front, some in the trunk. A flip-out hook that you can hang your bag of take-out from for the drive home. If your car doesn’t have one, a $2 3M Command Hook does the exact same job. Just stick it to the side of the center console or the

I’m cooking ostrich burgers tonight - which I bought in Morrison’s who usually have some venison on hand. Might mix some cranberries and port with them.

Not only has there not been a “Queen of England” since 1707, she hasn’t been “Her Royal Highness” since she was Princess Elizabeth in 1952. British kings and queens are “His\Her Majesty”. HRH is for princes and princesses.

There hasn’t been a Queen of England in a very long time.

When discussing ancient habits that should have died a long time ago, like the UK driving on the left; the insistence of the US to resist the metric system trumps everything else.

Fake news. LA is all of California.

He’s from the UK. He put out a story yesterday about his first time driving in the US last month.

Manuals have traditionally been more expensive, slower and heavy on fuel and to a certain extent still are - most of the automatics sold where I am cost in the region of €2,000 extra and you're limited to more upmarket specs and more powerful engines so the price difference between the cheapest manual and the cheapest

This is the same for the U.S. but as you noticed, there are a lot of idiots.

Man thats sexy as hell. Anytime I drive our roads here at night and its raining, I wish these were installed. But like someone else said, Canadian east coast winters would likely take them out pretty quickly.

Come to Canada. We have road reflectors, centre barrier reflectors, portions of the Trans-Canada highway with 120 km/h limits (75 mph), people who generally understand traffic circles, and very few “Jesus saves” billboards (and I live in the buckle of Canada’s bible belt).

Make sure you drive on the right side (pun intended) of the road. You likely do not have diplomatic immunity.

You’re under arrest.

You’re under arrest for being under arrest

Even more so when it is the only charge a person has. Like how can you be charged for only resisting arrest?

Not surprised at all. Hopefully his settlement is enough to keep him comfortable for the rest of his life. Unfortunately it will come out of the city’s funds instead of the PD itself. It would be really satisfying if the cops had to sell off their MRAPs and cut their military cosplay budget to cover this stuff instead
