It can be a tricky thing to retroactively judge people based on contemporary social attitudes. In this case I think it’s right that the award is being withheld. It may have been the 70s and 80s, but Bushnell’s behaviour would still have been considered sexist. People were just more likely to shrug sexist behaviour off…

Brady should have said something like “Yeah, we caught her in a bad mood and kids are like that sometimes”.

You should always have your kids’ back in public. It doesn’t mean they’re infallible and that they shouldn’t face consequences for their actions but you don’t just sit there while someone demeans your child. I don’t see how someone can come out against Brady on this specifically (and I think he’s an insipid doofus).

I don’t think Boston is the big problem. I think Sports Radio in general is the culprit. The entire industry is modeled on artificial conflict and outrage to get listeners. It’s always going to be odious at its core, no matter what city it originates from.

We should just get rid of Boston Sports Radio.

I am the first to admit my 5 year old son can be annoying as fuck. He’s also 5 and probably doesn’t deserve to be insulted — and being called an annoying fuck is, in fact, an insult — by a grown man broadcasting to thousands of people.

Ummm ok? It’s still incredibly inappropriate for someone with no relationship to said child to call them a “pissant” on a regional radio station.
