I came up with a better analogy last night to express how I think of money. It’s the bridge that gets you to where you want to be in the future, if you use it correctly. The more you have of it, the farther you can go. But if you don’t use it correctly you’ll find yourself stuck where you are or worse deep in a hole.

Yea it definitely is the worst and greatest hurdle to get over in order to change your life.

Eh, by definition (I just checked) money itself is a resource. Those you listed are all resources. Though technically wealth can mean a whole bunch of things in itself including money and assets.

I prefer to think of it as a resource that needs to be managed to best help my goals in life. But that’s hard to do when you feel overwhelmed. This part really struck a cord with me “It’s hard to make money plans when you’re afraid of money. You don’t bother budgeting your spending because looking at your bank account

It’s super easy when you spend just what you earn or more and don’t have an emergency fund. We made almost that and acquired almost 10k of debt every year and had the same issue of not being able to handle a 400 problem. Like I’d forget I had to get contacts (about 400) and I’d freak out about how I’d pay for them

I think it was less than that, closer to 400. It’s really sad. And a lot of those people can afford it but choose to spend it on stuff that doesn’t matter. (I was super guilty of that myself for most of my life.)

Well the RV parks cost some money especially if you want a nice one. BUT it’s still a cheaper way to see the country and not have to spend time in icky hotel rooms. And if you’re okay with less amenities then it will be pretty darn cheap. My in laws prefer the nicer parks so they spend a bit more.
    I said in

In my case that still would have been a huge headache and cost. I was going to do something like what you said but the logistics of family having to fly in or meet up at my sister’s in FL(no one was coming all the way over to CA plus I’d have to book a venue which is a large part of what we’d be saving in not having a

I think we read the same one. It really brought it home how insane our (as a people) handling of money (average) is. I know some of that has to do with people just not making enough to save but we were making more than enough to live off of and yet still a 400 surprise expense had to be dealt with by asking the

Although I may actually just make my own tiny house instead of an RV. The maintenance is less expensive because I can fix it since I build it. Plus I can get exactly what I want in there and it’s super cute to look at when it’s parked in the back. AND if my kids want to come back after college they can stay there

They enjoy it and it’s cheaper than spending all year long in various hotels as they explore the country. Also less icky. I hate hotels and how dirty they are, even the nice ones. I may want to get a small one for comic conventions when I retire so I can save on hotels and not have to worry about bed bugs as well

For me I already know what I want for my cake. It’s less planning and more about just putting in the order. Publix wedding cake, vanilla and butter cream and vanilla and regular frosting on alternating layers. Too much butter cream and it hurts your tummy. I say this because I’ll likely buy a wedding cake just for

It also depends on how much back lash you’ll get from your family. I mean most families may get a little miffed by it but some may make your life hell especially for the one marrying in if they think that person is the reason they didn’t get a proper wedding.

They will be very bored after a time. Gotta do something, may as well make a little money doing whatever that is.

There’s an article I read that was very disturbing which kind of related to the whole lack of savings thing. It was the fact that most people couldn’t handle a surprise expense of a certain amount, I want to say something like 1000. That to me says more about how many of us are living pay check to paycheck than the

They’re talking about 2 different things there. The cottage for 350 a night has nothing to do with the RV. What they want to do is have a cottage on their property that people pay 350 a night to stay in as an easy revenue stream. The RV comment is a in repsonse to the question of how they’d do Airbnb with their

Anytime they’re not using their home they could Airbnb it. You don’t have to Airbnb all the time to make money off of it. Going away for the weekend? List it. Taking a 2 week vacation? List it!

Even if you do a court house marriage be prepared for being asked about doing a wedding later. It will never stop though it gets less frequent. I may do something for my 10th which is coming up in 2 years but it’s not a big deal. Best decision I ever made was to skip the wedding. I do keep in mind that my mom

Huh. I'll ask my FIL because he was an accountant and both he and his wife worked and see if he has any info on that.

Kirkland signature brand and publix premium (not the regular kind the nicer one). Nothing else will do. The “nicer” brands are awful and leave tons of paper fiber on me and the cheap ones are just as painful as sandpaper.
